Structural tree support

Why Cabling & Bracing Matters

Live oaks and pecans often grow several trunks from a single point, and those unions split under wind, ice or the weight of their own canopy. A failure usually takes out a fence, a vehicle or part of a roof with it. Installed correctly, cables and braces redistribute that stress and buy a healthy tree decades more life.

Not every cracked tree can be saved, and we would rather tell you that up front than sell you a cable that will not hold. When the tree is worth saving, a properly installed support system is far cheaper than removal plus replanting, and you keep the shade you have waited decades for.

Support systems

Cabling & Bracing Installed to Industry Standard

Our crew inspects the union, measures the limbs and decides whether the tree needs a flexible cable high in the canopy, a through-bolt brace at the split, or both.

Canopy Cabling

A flexible steel cable installed about two-thirds of the way up the canopy limits how far co-dominant limbs can move apart in wind, so the union below is never loaded to the point of splitting.

Through-Bolt Bracing

Where a union has already begun to crack, threaded rods are installed through the split to hold it together. Bracing is almost always paired with a cable above it to share the load.

Inspection & Adjustment

Trees grow and hardware does not. We set a re-inspection interval when we install the system so cables stay properly tensioned and never girdle the limb as the trunk thickens.

Who we are & how we help

Why Choose Lees Trees for Cabling & Bracing?

Hardware is sized to the tree and installed so it supports the limb without girdling it as the tree grows. Our certified arborist decides what the tree needs, installs it to industry standard and tells you honestly when a tree is not a candidate.

Saves Mature Trees

Stabilizing a split union is far cheaper than removal plus replanting.

Reduces Storm Risk

Supported limbs are much less likely to fail in Hill Country wind and ice.

Protects What Is Under the Tree

Roofs, fences, vehicles and walkways stay out of harm’s way.

Assessed by a Certified Arborist

We only cable trees that are worth saving, and we tell you when they are not.

Hill Country know-how

Why Live Oaks and Pecans Split in Dripping Springs

Multi-trunk live oaks and pecans are the signature shade trees on older Dripping Springs lots, and their unions are the weak point. Fast spring growth after a wet winter adds weight to limbs that spent years stunted by drought, shallow soil over limestone gives the whole tree less anchorage, and Central Texas thunderstorms arrive with straight-line winds and hail. Included bark, where two trunks press together with bark trapped between them instead of solid wood, is common on these trees and is the union most likely to fail, usually onto whatever sits below it. A cable installed high in the canopy and, where the crack has already started, a brace through the union redistribute that stress so the tree rides out the storm. Our certified arborist inspects the union and the canopy load first, because a cable in a tree that is already too far gone only delays the removal.

Signs a tree needs support

A visible crack at a fork, a seam of included bark, a long heavy limb reaching over the house, or a tree that has already lost one leader. If you see any of these, call before storm season rather than after.

Pricing factors

What Affects the Cost of Cabling & Bracing in Dripping Springs?

Every tree is priced on the job in front of us, never a guess over the phone. These are the factors that move the number up or down, so you know what to expect before we start.

Cost factor

What it means for your quote

Tree size & limb weight

Taller trees with heavier leaders need higher-rated hardware and more time aloft.

Number of unions supported

One cable between two leaders is the simplest job; a tree with three or four co-dominant trunks needs a full system.

Cable, brace or both

A cable alone is the most common install. A union that has already cracked needs through-bolt bracing as well.

Access & climbing conditions

Dense canopy, nearby roofs or power lines and tight back yards slow the install down.

Arborist assessment

Included in every quote. We confirm the tree is worth saving before any hardware goes in.

Re-inspection schedule

Periodic checks keep the system properly tensioned as the tree grows; bundle them with your regular trimming.
